In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

Both editors would like to acknowledge the writers who have entrusted their work to us and without whom this volume would not have come into being. We would also like to thank the Department of English and Film Studies and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta for the financial support they have extended, in various forms, to both editors. Robert Brazeau would also like to acknowledge the generosity of his institution’s sabbatical structure, which offered timely assistance as this manuscript was nearing completion. He has also received generous support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and would like to acknowledge the importance of that granting body for research in the humanities. This project has received generous support from Joyceans and Irish studies scholars too numerous to name, many of whom offered helpful criticisms and suggestions as some of these papers were presented at the annual conferences of the International and North American James Joyce Foundations. Tony Thwaites, Sheldon Brivic, Anne Fogarty and Kim Devlin were especially supportive figures at these events. There is little doubt that this volume was strengthened in concrete ways by the efforts of the many strong scholars who attend this valuable conference. As well, a number of the essays in this volume were first presented at the Ireland and Ecocriticism conference (2010) organised by Maureen O’Connor. Finally, we owe an inestimable debt of gratitude to the staff and editorial board at Cork University Press, especially Maria O’Donovan for her meticulous handling of this project as it progressed through the press. Both Maria and Mike Collins have been a pleasure to work with. ix Acknowledgements ...
