S E N I O R SCRAPBOOK My Life Right Now by Sam Wolfe November 2005 THIS SUMMER, MY MOM WON FIRST PRIZE on a book about me when I was very young. The book is getting published in a year or two. The newspaper already reported her results and her pictures with me in the newspaper. I now have to write about my life right now until January 2006. When I write this story, the book will be able to get published. When the book gets published, my mom will keep her story and so will I. My grandparents and many other relatives in my family will even keep this story when it gets published. On June 18, 2005, I attended the Denton County Fruit, Vegetable, Herb, and Flower Show in Denton, Texas, that took place near the Denton Area Teachers Credit Union. This is an event where people compete by showing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a certain style. I got Grand Champion for a sunflower arrangement and Reserve Champion for some green beans. My sister, Paige, got Reserve Champion for her dill. I made thirty dollars for the sunflower arrangement and twenty 170 dollars for the green beans. (I heard a rumor this was reported in another newspaper, before my mom won her prize for the book about me, so I was already famous.) Some of my other Argyle 4-H club members attended this show. So, this was probably an event not only for a lot of experienced gardeners, but also for some of the Denton County 4-H clubs. I also have horseback riding on Wednesday from six o’clock to seven o’clock at Riding Unlimited in Ponder. I am now learning about showmanship, equitation, and trail riding. We usually attend Chisholm Challenge in Fort Worth and State Special Olympics in Waco. Chisholm Challenge takes place in January before the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, and State Special Olympics takes place in May. Both events last for about two days. These events normally have equitation, trail, showmanship, and sometimes a relay race. They do two events on the first day and another event, plus the horse races, on the second day. Before I go to State Special Olympics, I have to attend the regional Special Olympics that takes place in April. It is normally held where I go for horseback riding in Ponder, and has the same events, but it takes place only for one day. I have been in 4-H since my freshman year here and this is my fourth year. Our club usually attends county and district food shows, works community service, and shows projects at the Denton County Livestock Association Youth Fair. Our club has meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. The county food show takes place in the month that usually comes before the month of the district food show in the county extension office building in Denton. The district food show itself takes place at the student center at Texas A & M in Commerce. My community service usually includes making pies for the Argyle Community Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas placemats for Meals on Wheels. The DCLA Fair takes place in March at the North Texas State Fairgrounds in Denton where people show pigs, cows, sheep, goats, and chickens, as well as plants. The DCLA Fair is like the State Fair of Texas, except that the State Fair takes place in October at the fairgrounds in Dallas. People also compete in these fairs to win money like at the Denton County Fruit, Vegetable, Herb, and Flower Show. I also like to go out with my friends on weekends to see a movie, to eat at a restaurant, and to do other things. I usually talk to them about that between classes at school, or during class free time.
