First, we would like to thank Jack Dorsey of Mt. Zion, Georgia, for his invaluable assistance with the location of biographical material on Rev. James Mitchell. Dorsey is a local historian and retired educator from the Carroll County School District, the successor institution to a school system founded by Mitchell after his service as Abraham Lincoln’s Emigration Commissioner. He is currently the director of the Mt. Zion Community Center.
