Abstract

This chapter explores Schmitt’s views on the conquest of the cosmos as he traces the history of the appropriations that have punctuated the globalization of the globe, and when he analyzes the emergence of humanity as a subject of a new state of law. The analysis focuses on the central concept in Schmitt’s approach to issues in geopolitics and international law—nomos (appropriation, distribution, and exploitation of a given space). It examines how spatial conquest and star wars may provide the background and backdrop for the invention of a new world order, perhaps a new nomos, one whose coming was intensely sought out by Schmitt.
