225 CHRONOLOGY LATIN AMERICAN SCIENCE FICTION THROUGH 1920 The following chronology covers the science fiction published between the years 1775 through c. 1920 in all Latin American countries. If a country is not represented, I do not know of works of proto- or early science fiction published there. As discussed in the introduction, I have chosen to err on the side of inclusivity in establishing selection criteria. This chronology is intended for use in conjunction with the bibliography of primary texts, which provides more complete reference information. Multiple bibliographical entries are provided for texts that can be more difficult to locate due to age, rarity, or length (i.e., shorter works published in periodicals and anthologies). Whenever possible, bibliographical information has been taken directly from the first or best recent edition of the text itself. Other sources are listed below. I would welcome notice of pertinent additions or corrections. The point of departure for this chronology is the excellent “Chronology of Latin American Science Fiction, 1775–2005” by Yolanda Molina-Gavilán, Andrea Bell, Miguel Ángel Fernández-Delgado, M. Elizabeth Ginway, Luis Pestarini , and Juan Carlos Toledano Redondo published in Science Fiction Studies (No. 103, Vol. 34.3, November 2007).
