About the Author Melanie Shellenbarger is a faculty member in the Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado Denver. She teaches global architecture history, American architecture , modern architecture, and cultural landscape courses. Melanie’s research interests lie in exploring the tension inherent in the intersection of wilderness and cultural landscapes in the American West and how the study of the built environment informs their interpretation .
