Photographed in their kitchen on Polna Street 20, Bialystok, Poland, ca. 1930. 2 Formal portrait of my maternal grandmother, Fradl Matz. Vilna, ca. 1890. She wears a tiara of her own hair and the diamond earrings she would later sell to buy a grand piano. This photo is a copy of the life-size portrait of Fradl that hung over my parents’ bed.
