About the Author James J. Holmberg is the curator of special collections at The Filson Historical Society in Louisville, Kentucky, where he has worked for over 20 years. He has degrees in history from the University of Louisville. He is the editor of Dear Brother: Letters of William Clark to Jonathan Clark and wrote the epilogue for the revised edition of In Search of York: The Slave Who Went to the Pacific with Lewis and Clark. He writes and lectures on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. His articles frequently appear in the national Lewis and Clark magazine, We Proceeded On. Mr. Holmberg has also written entries for The Kentucky Encyclopedia, The Encyclopedia of Louisville, and the Dictionary of Virginia Biography. He is a member of the Kentucky Humanities Council's Speakers Bureau. Mr. Holmberg is married and has three children.
