23 Solstice There is a night in summer, a girl with braces on her teeth. There is the lengthening of darkened hours, a gradation not quite the desire for sleep— she knows the feeling is more quiet, like running her fingers down the inside of her arm. It comes from the place where her hair is gently braided and unbraided, brushed against her neck by unnamed hands. She wears soft things, a skirt that falls against her calf; she says kiss into the mirror, sees the distance between the word and its reflection.
