As discussed in chapter 5, one of the log entry summaries (the one for 0447) has been cited as proof that Admiral Nagumo received the crucial Tone 4 sighting report before 0745—contradicting Nagumo’s (and my) claim of an 0800 receipt time. My view is that these summaries were sloppily rendered, and some are patently inaccurate—making them extremely unreliable . Therefore, the summary in question should be given little or no weight to impeach Nagumo’s claim of an 0800 receipt time. But because of the central importance of this issue, these summaries are made available in this appendix so readers can make their own judgment as to the reliability of the summary in question.
