La comunicación oral, a pesar de haber sido relegada por la comunicación escrita al plano de lo no oficial, continúa siendo la forma privilegiada para la transmisión del saber de las grandes mayorías hispanoamericanas. La pervivencia del Romancero de tradición oral en el ocaso del siglo XX atestigua la pertinencia cultural que ha podido mantener este género durante más de cinco siglos. Los textos de romances regidos en la tradición oral cubana, junto con las observaciones sobre cada uno de los temas incluidos en este Romancero general de Cuba, pretenden ser una contribución al conocimiento del Romancero tradicional, mediante el estudio de una porción de su rama americana.
