L’économie sociale et l’action communautaire permettent de faire face à ce qui engendre la pauvreté et l’exclusion, mais elles ne parviennent pas à elles seules à les infléchir. Combinées à l’économie publique et privée cependant, elles peuvent être la base d’une stratégie plurielle de développement susceptible d’augmenter la richesse commune des collectivités locales. Voilà ce que montre l’analyse approfondie de dix cas d’initiatives locales de lutte contre la pauvreté et l’exclusion menées dans trois régions du Québec (Montréal, Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean et Bas-Saint-Laurent).Les auteurs révèlent les facteurs qui ont fait la réussite de ces initiatives afin que les chercheurs et les acteurs concernés par cette lutte puissent en tirer profit. L’existence d’un leadership fort, la capacité de mobiliser une grande diversité de ressources et l’utilisation créative des programmes publics sont quelques uns de ces facteurs clés qui participent à la mise en œuvre d’une dynamique de reconversion socioéconomique des communautés permettant l’amélioration de la qualité et du niveau de vie des citoyens.
