ABSTRACT:
The 2020 COVID emergency and ongoing pandemic have substantially impacted educational institutions, educators, and students. Although the global health crisis has reduced departmental budgets and enrollments, it has also yielded invaluable insights into measures that effectively strengthen French programs and maximize student retention. Along with exploring factors that allow French studies to thrive (even within a STEM-focused institution), this article will discuss additional lessons learned from the pandemic, such as the potential and limits of teaching language with technology, the pressing need to strive for greater equity in education, and the increased gratitude for shared experiences with students and colleagues.
