Abstract

Abstract:

This article draws on and develops the already existing research on the Norwegian biography of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The novel was first published in Norway in 1852, followed by numerous editions until the 2016. In this article we pay attention to a particular edition, namely the edition entitled Onkel Toms hytte. Negerlivet i de Amerikanske Slavestater, published in 1897 with copyright by John C. Winston, Philadelphia. This edition was aimed at a Norwegian-American readership, and as such stands out in what we have elsewhere termed the “Norwegian biography” of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
