Abstract

Abstract:

Philadelphia and New Orleans are two great American cities celebrated for their rich culture and heritage. There are many parallels between them, and the primary focus of this research is jazz music. Qualitative research was conducted by gathering various perspectives through interviews with members of the jazz network, participation within the community, and observation of the traditions. It is widely known that these two cities are powerful jazz hubs; however, their profound and complex similarities have not yet been codified. It is of great importance to examine this topic because it is essential for both the history and future of jazz music. There exist parallels in terms of musical lineage, the philosophies of education, the communal atmosphere, and the fellowship between musicians. Although there are many parallels, each place has its own distinctive qualities and regional sound. This is spearheaded by the legendary musicians of the city whose impact was so profound that it is still heard in the soulful sound of Philadelphia and the celebratory sound of New Orleans. Upon examining these parallels, one should understand the unique contributions to jazz music from Philadelphia and New Orleans and hold them in high regard.
