Abstract

Abstract:

This essay argues that Lucha Corpi's Eulogy for a Brown Angel depicts the US military (and US militarism) as a subversive institution that threatens and complicates the identities of those who engage with it. Furthermore, Corpi's use of the popular detective genre allows her to interrogate and critique the ways in which the US military generates dominant cultural ideals of masculinity that negatively impact communities of color in general, and the Chicanx/Latinx community more specifically.
