- In MemoryBruce Tindall (1956–2021)
My editorial board colleagues and I were deeply saddened by the news of Bruce Tindall's death earlier this year. Bruce served for fourteen years as the copyeditor for Late Imperial China. He significantly increased the quality and consistency of our journal. In addition, Bruce copyedited prominent monographs in China studies. He was an extremely knowledgeable and capable editor, always generous with his time.
Bruce's dedication to his work, his sense of responsibility toward the authors of the articles that he edited, became more evident than ever during the months leading up to the publication of his final issue, June 2021. Despite his declining health, Bruce was determined to finish the articles. Facing challenges far beyond his control, he felt apologetic when he had absolutely no need to be. My interactions with Bruce during the spring drove home for me just how much he cared both about his craft and about our authors—he understood how much work they had put into their research and writing, and he only wished to serve them well. I will miss Bruce's steady hand and friendly advice. [End Page 6]
