  • Editor's Introduction

This guest-edited issue of Palimpsest concerns Black women and leadership. As an outgrowth of celebrations in 2019 of the fiftieth anniversary of Black studies and women's studies in the academy, many of the women included in the journal began their leadership journeys in these programs/departments. The issue also appears on the occasion of the journal's ten-year anniversary. The essays offer a range of experiences to complement the range of institutions—from Research 1 universities to liberal arts colleges. Whether one is beginning their career in academe, midcareer, or a senior scholar tempted to take on academic administrative responsibilities, the mix of autobiographical/experiential narratives of leadership with lessons learned and recommended reading makes their various paths to academic leadership highly readable and informative.
