Abstract

abstract:

Although recovery-oriented care is considered the guiding principle of mental health service provision, little has been written about providing recovery-oriented supervision. This article outlines key considerations for providing supervision in a recovery-oriented system of care that models recovery principles in the process and content of supervising with consideration for the overlapping relationships between supervisor, supervisee, and client. The authors draw on their diverse experiences working in different aspects of community mental health to provide suggestions to other supervisors with the hope of energizing more research and focus in this area that will further promote transformation of systems toward a recovery orientation.
