Between the two world wars, the French Provincial style rose in popularity to become a model for American domestic architecture. Its foremost practitioner was Frank Forster. This article examines the French Provincial style in America—its rise in popularity within the larger context of American popular culture, and its architectural character as exemplified in the work of Forster.
