Abstract:
This essay examines Alejandro Tapia y Rivera’s work and his use of medievalism to discuss off-whiteness, mulataje, and mestizaje to construct a multiracial Puerto Rican identity. His medievalism includes the character of Arthur which imagines a relationship between Puerto Rico and the U.S. before the U.S. colonization of Puerto Rico.
