Abstract

Abstract:

During this pandemic, the Religious of the Assumption, familiarly known as the Assumption Sisters, have been celebrating 100 years of life in the United States. From their beginnings in France in 1839, they have embraced the charism of education. For the first half of their American century, beginning with their arrival in 1919, that meant founding and running two small but excellent schools for girls. In the second half, their deep commitment to education did not change, but the manner and breadth of that education did. Now, as they begin their next hundred years, they are coming to understand and appreciate how deeply their American experience has educated them. This is the story of how they got to where they are today.
