Abstract

Abstract:

Historian Philippe Artières is an indefatigable discoverer, mediator, and curator of archives. Through them, not only does he imagine new ways of bringing history to life, but he also seeks to question the documentary “phase” of an historian’s work and, more generally, the very nature of a document. In studying Artièress playful body of works, this article shows how the historian invents new ways of writing history, both on and off the page, especially as Artières attempts various historiographical experiments that are resolutely interdisciplinary, if not outright undisciplined.
