Abstract:
This article explores intersections between William Sleator's novel The Duplicate and G. W. F. Hegel's parable of lordship and bondage. The article considers how the Hegelian philosophical implications of Sleator's narrative both elucidate and also problematize the ethical messages about risk, transgression, and maturity in The Duplicate.
