The Editorial Board has decided to adopt a new title, Republican China, and to enlarge each issue so that we can publish longer and a greater variety of items. We will continue to publish two issues a year. We are delighted to announce that Keith Schoppa has agreed to assume the editorship of Republican China following the resignation of David Strand who is currently on leave in China. Another cause of celebration is the addition to the Editorial Board of Eto Shinkichi, Leo Ou-fan Lee, Susan Mann, and Peter Schran. The success of this publication, especially now with the enlarged format, depends in large part on you, readers and subscribers with a special interest in the Republican period. We need your cooperation in submitting material for publication: articles, conference reports, and book reviews (such as those of L~ Yu-ning in this issue). We also hope to publish more articles that report on the state of Chinese Republican studies outside the U.S. and that describe research at universities in this country.
