There was something terribly wrong with his face,a chipped razor, an old pull plow rusted againstthe shed. A mouth so choked with lilies that mourningmeant nothing to us at all. We drove far betweenhospitals during those afternoons. Green field, brownfield, field swamped by biblical rain. Was it Abrahamwho was asked by God to return his sonto the dark?
