Abstract

Abstract:

This article examines the many ways in which the example of the double moon is deployed in Dignāga's Investigation of the Percept (Ālambanaparīkṣā) and its Indian and Tibetan commentaries. By exploring these different interpretations of this rather simple analogy we see the diverse hermeneutic strategies deployed by Dignāga's commentators and the way that philosophy progresses in a scholastic tradition.
