Shaanzi Teachers University X~an Shaanxi China March 10, 1982 Organizational Meeting Tang Studies Society Dear Colleagues: I'm glad to learn from your letter that your Tang Studies Society would be organized to have scholars in all relevant aspects carry out Tang-period research. This would be a grant meeting, I think, under your Society's leadership, the great progress is to be made and the researchof Tang history flourish. On the occasion of the organizational meeting, may I extend to you our sincere congratulation, wishing you a best beginning. For the same purpose, we've organized our Tang History Society of China and set it at the Shaanxi Teachers University. Our Society recruits scholars working in Tang History research from universities and institutes throughout the country. Set up in 1980, our Society is only two years old. At its first two meetings our members provided almost two hundred papers. Once these papers are compiled and published, we'll send them to you for advice. Since we have the same aim, we hope to establish a close, longterm connection between our two Societies, communicating and exchanging our achievements, so as to push Tang Studies to a new, higher stage. Xian, where out Society is based, is ancient Changan, the capital and center of politics and economy during the Tang Dynasty. Still tuday there are relics and ruins from the Tang capital. Besides old palaces, city doors and tombs from that period are being unearthed regularly. All of these provide priceless material for scholars of Tang Studies. We heartfeltly hope that you could come and visit at your convenience, so that we could have more opportunity to communication with you and to exchange ideas. Wishing you all good health and your Society success. Sincerely yours, Vice-President Tang History Society of China 5 ...
