Declaración del artista / Artist's Statement

ADELCIO GUAINORA C. (ADEK GUAINORA) es un artista panameño (Emberá) nacido en la provincia de Darién el 13 de junio de 1990. Esta obra representa el inicio del COVID-19, en la cual el mundo está paralizado en un tiempo donde la humanidad se encuentra en espera de la cura, así mismo representa la necesidad de proteger para la sobrevivencia. La mujer indígena Emberá-Wounaan es vestida consutradicional vestimenta para así protegerse del mortal virus. En la cultura Emberá el colibrí simboliza muchos conceptos, se conoce como un mensajero y guardián del tiempo, también representa el amor, la alegría y la belleza.

ADELCIO GUAINORA C. (ADEK GUAINORA) is an Emberá artist born in the province of Darién, Panama, on June 13, 1990. This piece represents the beginning of COVID-19, when the world is paralyzed while humanity waits for a cure. It demonstrates the need for protection in order to survive. This Emberá-Wounaan woman wears her traditional dress to protect herself from the deadly virus. In the Emberá culture, the hummingbird has many symbolic meanings. It is known as a messenger and guardian of time and also represents love, happiness, and beauty.
