Abstract:

With a long career teaching, editing, and mentoring students in Australian literature, Elizabeth Webby reflects on the changes over the past several decades and current trends in Australian literature across a wide range of genres and writers. The interview provides insight into Webby's thoughts about the careers of well-established writers like Peter Carey and newly influential writers like Kim Scott and Alexis Wright, along with views on the various streams of contemporary writing in or from Australia. The interview also includes commentaries on some of the new orientatons of Australian writing and the scholarly work being done in Australian literary studies.
