SOME WORDS OF THANKS OR MOST OF MY TIME I go from one thing to the next, just taking care of what needs to be done, not thinking that what I do is of any moment beyond the moment. But then there are those “spots in time” in which I reflect on what my work may mean to others. Such thoughts are often associated with individual, personal responses to my music or writings, which extend beyond applause or bibliographic citation to manifest as new creative endeavors. While I am always grateful for a response, I find that I am often surprised and delightfully animated by the unexpected ways in which my work has affected others, finding new resonance in another’s voice. And so, the music and words in this wonderfully diverse collection of articles, performances, and pieces is more than just gratefully received; it is breathtaking and humbling at once to accept this great gift from so many people with whom I have shared so much music and thought over the years. I am especially indebted to the four people who have curated and edited this collection: Ben Boretz, Dora Hanninen, Joshua Mailman, and Wayne Slawson. To each author, performer, and composer I offer my deepest thanks and lively appreciation of the new work that has come about through our relationship with one another. —Bob Morris F ...
