"Our Space is Limited": Fitting Sketches by Boz into the Morning Chronicle

It is suggested that the Chronicle's primary concerns to report and provide partisan commentary on a volatile political environment limited its ability to provide a regular, sustained platform for Dickens's short pieces. Nevertheless, its accommodation of them, albeit mostly as reprints, substantiated the pseudonymous public presence of Dickens and provided impetus to the publication of Sketches by Boz.
