Abstract

ABSTRACT:

This article utilizes a hemispheric Asian American studies framework to analyze the global COVID-19 pandemic and anti-Asian racism from the perspective of Mexico. It situates the current rise in anti-Asian discrimination within a longer history of anti-Asian racism in Mexico and analyzes the articulation of an anti-racist discourse by a new generation of young Asian Mexicans through social media. It argues that a hemispheric Asian American politics of alliance must be attentive to structurally shared experiences of Asian diasporas as well as the distinctiveness of cross-border racial and cultural contexts.
