Abstract:

In Fall 2016, students in a team-taught class, “Translating the Freedom Papers: Charles de Gaulle and World War II Correspondence,” at Kansas State University produced both professional translations of manuscript Charles de Gaulle letters and a Digital Humanities (DH) companion site. Recent research in translation studies and pedagogy has indicated that collaborative, task-based approaches to language learning broadly and translation specifically have the potential to improve both outcomes and student attitudes. This case study examines the impact of translation studies and DH pedagogy on the second-language classroom with students at the Advanced-low level.
