Cordina, David, Marc Oddou, et Jérome Rambert. Pratiques et projets numérique en classe de FLE. CLE International, 2017. ISBN 978-209-038230-3. Pp. 142.

This textbook provides a solid introduction to the implementation of digital, web-based projects in FLE classes. Not only does the volume explain why this type of activity is relevant, but the authors provide guided lessons to develop a savoir-faire for students and professors alike. The introductory chapters explain the omnipresence of digital media, the role a teacher plays in the use of these activities in class, and how the concept can be used more largely to link languages with other disciplines. There is a concerted effort to show the utility of digital projects for language acquisition in the [End Page 261] FLE classroom and beyond. The authors highlight terms that are key in pedagogical theory at present by discussing active learning, transparency and others. After the presentation of why and how to integrate digital lessons as well as defining the role of the student and the instructor in the process, the authors provide 35 lessons. The lessons or fiches begin with simple tasks like how to efficiently use search engines such as Google.fr. Other lessons focus on Kahoot and Quizlet to create quizzes that are fun and student-friendly. There is also a focus on resources such as Tumblr and Edmodo to create a community on the web. The fiches are clearly presented with a statement of the learning outcome, the material or technology needed, how to use the tool, and ideas for expansion. The final section provides complete prompts for projects that engage students in language acquisition as well as digital literacy. In the final 15 fiches, students are guided through the process of preparing a virtual visit of their hometown, how to play certain games, and prepare their personal story through GIFs. In addition to these tasks which focus on personal stories and identity, the authors propose prompts that are related to tourism by creating postcards and travel brochures, as well as professional endeavors such as a video CV. In sum, this collection is well organized to lead students with all levels of technological proficiency through lessons that make language acquisition fun and meaningful. It is definitely appreciated that the prompts focus on students navigating multiple skill sets. This volume is unique in its approach to the FLE classroom and fills a gap in the market for instructional materials.
