Abstract

Abstract:

This article explores a unique portrait of women within Agrippa d'Aubigné's Les tragiques: those who died for their faith. Exploring the testimonies of the female martyrs commemorated in Book 4 of this epic poem, we highlight several themes of d'Aubigné's work—political, theological, and humanistic. Ultimately, considering these women's stories against those of their male counterparts, we assess differences in the rhetoric, prominence, and eminence of the female victims of "Les feux."
