Abstract

Abstract:

Exodes, a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel published in 2012, shatters the classic hero's journey to a new social order, and engages readers to reflect on the concept of nature and the relationship between humans and nature. In this article, I show how the narrative structure of the novel elicits a fragmented map of climate catastrophe by analyzing the characters' journeys from one impacted place to another, leaving little hope for renewal. Then, through the prism of contemporary French écocritique, I examine one character who does not travel and, unlike the others, questions the very concept of nature.
