The study investigated eight essential characteristics Black professionals desire in a partner using the Delphi method—an iterative approach that provides participants anonymous consultation with others to converge answers towards a consensus. Ten respondents participated in follow-up interviews to further expound on their responses and experiences with dating. Results suggested faithful and committed, desire to marry, intelligence, ambition, and fun were some of the most valued qualities. Social consciousness and financial literacy proved essential, regarding facets of intelligence for many with goals of social advancement; this may be linked to participants' education and increased social consciousness.
