“La memoria de mi madre” is a personal essay by Mayra Santos-Febres. In this piece, the Afro-Puerto Rican writer conjures up the memory of her late mother’s life and her battle with Alzheimer’s. Santos-Febres offers snapshots of Afro-Puerto Rican families and communities and highlights how the labor of love and care are inextricable from memory and the body.
