Abstract:

Happyology—Tears of Joy exercises and exposes a current imperative of happiness in times of structural precarity and exhaustion as it raises questions on the efficacy of acting one's autobiography under these conditions. The performance asks us to speculate on who can be an agent of change within the political economy of independent theatre and its labor practices.
