The small town of Windy Bottom, Georgia is turned upside-down with the discovery of a human skeleton; the remains belonged to Tabby, Coop's grandmother, whom everyone thought left town when her son, Coop's father, was a baby. When the authorities point the finger at Gramps for murder, Coop, along with his friends Justice, Liberty, and bully-turned-ally Beau, gather evidence at the risk of interfering with an investigation to vindicate the wrongfully accused. This gripping tale is clever in deceptively first setting up the case as cut and dried, but it swiftly adds another layer with a confession that proves mistaken and a more sinister villain lurking behind (who even tries to poison our young detectives). The tale is pleasingly dark with its secrets, lies, and murder, and it's pleasingly free of predictability as the author unravels the story. Lovers of mysteries are sure to appreciate the uniqueness of this piece. [End Page 497]
