Abstract

Abstract:

The use of early recollections (ERs) is one of the most significant contributions of Alfred Adler to the field of psychology, and it is Adler’s gift to Adlerian psychotherapy and supervision. Early recollections are a powerful and quick metaphoric way to discover an individual’s strengths, creative abilities, and strategies used to achieve feelings of belonging and to develop a sense of social interest. Early recollections are accurate metaphors that disclose the individual’s current feelings of belonging to family, work, and friends. The goal of this article is to present an encouraging model to work with early recollections in psychotherapy and supervision. The last section of the article is a supervisee’s journey, as a consequence of working in supervision, using her own ERs.
