  • Wasserman Prize

With gratitude to the Wasserman Prize committee (Marc Dollinger, Tony Michels, and Beth Wenger), The American Jewish Historical Society is pleased to announce this year's winner of the Wasserman Prize, awarded for the best article published in the 2019 volume of American Jewish History:

Marni Davis (Georgia State University), "Toward an 'Immigrant Turn' in Jewish Entrepreneurial History: A View from the New South," 103, no. 4 (2019): 429–456.

After praising the stellar quality of the entire 2019 volume, the committee had this to say: Marni Davis's article marshals original research in support of a new comparative framework for understanding Jewish economic activity. The depth and breadth of her article and its originality, both in terms of evidence uncovered and ideas presented, greatly impressed the prize committee. At the present moment, when economic history has moved to the forefront of the study of American Jews, Davis's article challenges and reassesses common assumptions and, in doing so, signifies an important advance. The Committee extends its congratulations to Prof. Davis. [End Page 163]
