Production History

THE PIPELINE PROJECT premiered 9 March 2017 at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond, British Columbia. It was produced by Savage Society and ITSAZOO Productions, in association with Neworld Theatre, with development assistance from Playwrights Theatre Centre and featured the following cast and crew.

Kevin Loring, rural Indigenous dude from a logging family transplanted to Vancity from the N’lakap’mux Nation

Quelemia Sparrow, urban Indigenous yoga teacher from the Musqueam Nation. She’s intelligent and fiercely political, with a strong fashion sense

Sebastien Archibald, affable, albeit ignorant, white Canadian. Environmentalist and aging hipster

The Firehall Hall Arts Centre production of THE PIPELINE PROJECT opened 10 January 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The cast and artistic team were the same, except for the following changes:

About the Playwrights

Kevin Loring is an actor, playwright, and director; he is the Artistic Director of Savage Society, a non-profit dedicated to telling Indigenous stories, and the founding Artistic Director of the Indigenous Theatre Department at the National Arts Centre of Canada. Kevin is N’lakapamux from the Lytton First Nation in British Columbia. He is a graduate of Studio 58, the theatre training program at Langara College in Vancouver, and the Full Circle First Nations Performance Ensemble Training Program, where he was also a core trainer. Kevin is the recipient of many awards and accolades, most notably the 2009 Governor General’s Literary Award for his play Where the Blood Mixes and a Governor General’s Performing Arts Mentorship Award. Kevin has been a company member of the National Arts Centre English Theatre Acting Company and was the Playwright in Residence there in 2010.

Sebastien Archibald is an actor and playwright and is Co-Artistic Producer of ITSAZOO Productions. ITSAZOO produces dynamic, immersive theatre events for daring audiences. Sebastien is a three-time Jessie Richardson Award nominated actor (for Marine Life, THE PIPELINE PROJECT, and Killer Joe) and nominated playwright (for The Competition Is Fierce). Recent theatre credits include Lysistrata, Timon of Athens (Bard on the Beach), The Lonesome West (Pacific), How to Survive an Apocalypse (Touchstone), and Hamlin: A New Fable (Axis). Recent film/TV credits include Valley of the Boom (National Geographic), The Man in the High Castle (Amazon), Arrow (CW), and Bedbugs: A Musical Love Story (Crazy8s; Leo Nomination Best Actor). Other playwriting credits include Hidden, Robin Hood, The Road to Canterbury, Death of a Clown (Theatre BC Final-ist), Grimm Tales (Monday Magazine ‘M’ Award, Victoria Critics Circle Award), and Chairs: A Parable (Bottle Tree National Playwriting Competition Winner). Sebastien graduated with a BFA (acting) from the University of Victoria.

Quelemia Sparrow is an Indigenous actor, writer, and director from the Musqueam Nation. She graduated from Studio 58’s theatre program and the Langara Film Arts screenwriting program.
