Abstract:

This call-to-action essay encourages the female industry leaders who founded Time's Up/Advertising in early 2018 to remain in the fight against industry-wide patterns of sexual harassment and discrimination. The absorption of the two-year-old advertising movement within the overall Time's Up organization has reframed the advertising effort from collective, woman-driven, agency-wide changes to one of individual redress and generalized advice and research. This does not address the specific needs of the advertising industry. While it is admirable and necessary to support individual women, that doesn't ensure industry-wide change that is tracked through consistent and annual climate surveys targeting the advertising industry.
