Abstract

abstract:

Bethlehem Steel's success was not destined to last forever. Due to a combination of poor business management, labor strikes, and a general transition away from traditional steel manufacturing in the United States, the Bethlehem Steel Corporation fell into a period of decline in the late 1970s from which it never recovered. It filed for bankruptcy in 2001, marking the end of an industrial titan significant to American steel making and to the lives of the people who built and maintained it for decades.
