2019 C. L. Sonnichsen Award

The Arizona Historical Society is pleased to announce the winner of the 2019 C. L. Sonnichsen Award for best article in one volume of the Journal of Arizona History: Tom Zoellner for his article, “The Catalina Highway: Boosterism, Convict Labor, and the Road to Tucson’s Backyard Mountain,” which appeared in the Summer 2019 issue. The award will be handed out at the Arizona History Convention at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, Friday, April 17, 2020.

2020 Arizona History Convention

The 61st annual Arizona History Convention will be held April 16‒18 at the Casino del Sol in Tucson. This year our theme, “Advocating for Change,” commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote nationally. This was an important milestone in U.S. history, and as such we have several panels and a plenary talk on Arizona women’s history, including the suffrage movement specifically. We have an excellent program this year. For those interested, the program and registration information are available on the Arizona History Convention website, arizonahistory.org. The Arizona History Convention welcomes anyone interested in Arizona history to attend.

Errata

Three photographs from Tom Zoellner’s article, “The Catalina Highway: Boosterism, Convict Labor, and the Road to Tucson’s Backyard Mountain,” were mislabeled in the Summer 2019 issue (cover and p. 143; p. 149; and p. 151). The original images in our archives were labeled “Catalina Highway.” We assumed this meant the road to Mt. Lemmon, but instead it likely meant a road being constructed in or near Catalina, Arizona. We apologize for the mistake. [End Page 200]
