Abstract:
In this essay, Appalachian-based filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon deconstructs the blindspots of her colleagues who occupy the coastal documentary community in America. Weaving current politics, personal experience, and the reality of our current golden age for nonfiction content, McMillion Sheldon calls for a more nuanced, community-driven, and empathetic approach to storytelling.
