Abstract

Abstract:

New knowledge about genetics is reshaping human subjectivity. Genes are often perceived as a secret in the body and as something that can predict one's future. People are responding to genetics with the help of new fantasies, and anxieties in regard to the question of genetic determinism are on the rise. The article looks at the changes in subjectivity and the family relationships with the help of Lacanian psychoanalysis. A number of legal cases which involve the question of genetic determinism are analyzed.
