In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • Note from the Acting Editor-in-Chief
  • Alexandrine Boudreault-Fournier, Acting Editor-in-Chief

As we prepared for this issue, Anthropologica’s Editor-in-Chief, Sonja Luehrmann, passed away. It was a sudden and tragic event for many colleagues and friends, including our editorial team.

Sonja’s dedication to our journal was incommensurable. She not only oversaw the fine details of its logistics, but carried her vision for the journal forward until the end of her life. She was an extremely dynamic and productive Editor-in-Chief. Most notably, she re-initiated the “Exhibit and Film Reviews” feature; she secured a fascinating line-up of more than four theme issues; and she went beyond her editorial role by stimulating a conversation about the opportunities and challenges of open access in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The impeccability of her leadership and her professionalism contributed to the positive outreach of our journal in Canada and at the international level. Sonja will be remembered beyond the pages of this issue. Her presence and dedication will be printed in the evolution of Anthropologica for years to come.

Her colleagues at Simon Fraser University, Kathleen Millar, Amanda Watson, Ann Travers, Michael Hathaway, and Stacy Pigg, kindly accepted to publish in this issue an eloquent and moving tribute they wrote commemorating the significant role Sonja played in our discipline. Following this memorial tribute, the “Note from the editors” Sonja and I co-authored is a trace of our fruitful teamwork and our past efforts put together.

It was an immense pleasure working closely with Sonja towards the advancement of our journal and it is an honour for me to build on her legacy for the time being. [End Page 175]
